'Chase Through Time' Story Code '9624' by Carey Wilber

1547: Doug and Tony materialise in the Grand Canyon. Meanwhile, an enemy agent disguised as a technician infiltrates the control room of Project Tic-Toc, murders the scientist on duty and then sabotages the Time Tunnel – sending it wildly out of control. As alarms blare out, Doctor Swain and Doctor MacGregor arrive and try desperately to stop Doug and Tony from being torn apart, but the saboteur, Nimon, jumps into the Tunnel and disappears into the time vortex. When a search of the man’s effects reveal coded orders to plant a nuclear device in the Tic-Toc complex, Lieutenant General Kirk and his colleagues realise that they must send Doug and Tony after him so that they can learn the location of the device. Nimon also arrives at the Grand Canyon in 1547, and is soon captured by the two time travellers. The Project staff attempt to transfer them to the present; Nimon is sent first, but when Doug and Tony follow they emerge from the vortex only to find themselves inside a strange, beehive-like structure one-million years in the future, inhabited by a society that has based its structure on bees. The two time travellers are captured by a man named Vokar, and are shocked to learn that a time warp caused Nimon to arrive ten years before them – and that the enemy agent is building a Time Tunnel of his own. Nimon gloats that the Project Tic-Toc was destroyed when his bomb exploded at 3 a.m.; Doug and Tony are able to warn Kirk and the others, but it is now past midnight in the present. The two time travellers are forced to work on the new Time Tunnel; with the aid of female worker Zee they attempt to resist, but their efforts are rewarded with punishment. When Doug and Tony manage to recapture Nimon the Time Tunnel personnel attempt to transfer the three of them once more; however, Zee is caught up in the beam – and the four arrive in the year 1,000,000 B.C.,where they come face-to-face with a terrifying dinosaur…

Cliff-hanger: When Doug and Tony materialise at Gettysburg during the American Civil War, Tony is hit by a burst of gunfire, and appears to be dead…
