'Nuclear Family' Story Code '66426' by Paul Brown |

26th October 1962: Sam finds himself in the body of nineteen-year-old Eddie Ellroy, as he and his family seek refuge in their underground atom bomb shelter in the town of Elkridge, Indiana. However, to his relief Sam discovers that their evacuation was merely a test orchestrated by his brother Mac, who sells bomb shelters for a living. After discovering that he has arrived right in the middle of the Cuban Missile Crisis, a time when the U.S. came perilously close to nuclear war with Russia, Sam learns from Al that his mission is to save the life of neighbour, Burt Rosecranes: it seems that Burt, caught up in the paranoia of the times, will soon attempt to break into the Ellroys’ shelter, only to be shot dead by a panicking Mac, who will then be sentenced to prison for the next twenty years. Somehow Sam must find a way to calm Mac’s nerves – not an easy task in such nerve-wracking point in history…
