4th April 1960: Sam is delighted to leap into the life of Dennis Boardman, chauffeur to Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe. Learning from an over-excited Al that he has arrived just four days before Marilyn is fated to take a lethal drug overdose, Sam talks his beautiful employer into hiring a new personal secretary, the bubbly Barbara Whitmore, to ensure that she gets the companionship she needs. However, over the next few days Marilyn continues to slip into a depression, her unhappiness at her celebrity lifestyle leading her to drink champagne at all hours of the day. It also becomes apparent that Barbara is using Marilyn’s status for her own needs, dressing up in her employer’s clothes, and then convincing her to attend a party thrown by actor Peter Lawford just so she can rub shoulders with his celebrity friends. While attending the party, Marilyn takes a drugs overdose, but she is saved by the timely arrival of Sam, who manages to keep her alive until the medics arrive. As Marilyn recuperates at home Sam continues his attempts to bolster her spirits – but he is soon undermined by Barbara, who has set her sights on stealing Marilyn’s role in a forthcoming movie with Clark Gable…
