'Death Scouts' by Robert Lewin

Three scuba divers are presumed drowned after being dragged into the sea by a mysterious force, and an Unidentified Flying Object is sighted in the night sky. The coastguard turns to the Foundation of Ocean Research for help, and so Mark and Elizabeth head off in the Cetacean to investigate. Mark initially believes that the disappearance of the divers could be linked to his people; however, when two of the missing divers are then found on the beach, their bodies now inhabited by aliens named Xos and Lioa, the truth is finally revealed: the two aliens are scouts from an extraterrestrial invasion force intent on colonising the Earth…
