'Knight & Knerd' by Larry Mollin

When Devon sends Michael and K.I.T.T. to meet reclusive scientist Thomas Raymond, the duo arrive just as two masked Samurai motorcyclists murder the man and steal a black crystal from his belt. When the crooks’ beautiful boss, Vanessa Sutton, attempts to use the crystal to activate a powerful thermal laser, she discovers that the object is incomplete. Michael and K.I.T.T. set off to recover the other half of the crystal, and meet up with Thomas’ daughter, Ali. Also involved is Elliott Sykes, an annoyingly nerdy Foundation scientist named, who utterly fails to prevent Ali from being kidnapped by the villains…
