Dissatisfied with his role in a television sitcom, Gurney Slade walks off-set and out into the real world. As he wanders he meets a stone, invents some new words, is followed by a suspicious policeman, gets a lift from a philandering minister, dances in the park with a girl from an advertising billboard, and then tries to find a way to get rid of a vacuum cleaner…
