Scott Base, Antarctica: a scientific research centre at the South Pole detects a seismic tremor, which experts believe to be a nuclear explosion. When a party of four scientists sent to investigate goes missing, as do two subsequent search parties, Tremayne sends Craig and Richard to investigate. The two agents come up against General Gomez, a Central American despot who is planning to use atomic weapons to force the United Nations to listen to his demands. He captures Craig and Richard and locks them up, leaving them to freeze to death - unaware that the duo has set his nuclear weapons to detonate in just two hours…
