'The Night Demon' (a.k.a. 'Daemon Creature') (Story Code '45441') by Justin Edgerton

After a carving of Masauu, the Indian protector of the dead, is unearthed at an excavation site, the demon begins manifesting itself before several frightened victims. When Jaime visits the ranch of her friend, Indian lore expert Thomas Bearclaw, she too sees the monster; she pursues it into the darkness, but the demon vanishes. Jaime then encounters Lyle Cannon, a frightened rancher who is being driven to sell his ranch so that he can flee from the demon. Jaime sets out to track down the Masauu, and soon discovers that someone is using the monster to frighten off the locals…
