The Doctor

The TARDIS is immobilised in space by a strange cobweb substance, but the Doctor, Jamie and Victoria escape and materialise on a deserted station platform in the present day London Underground. They encounter their old friend Professor Travers, who confesses that he has reactivated a robot yeti, an action that has brought about the return of the cosmic entity known as the Great Intelligence. Yeti now roam the Underground, which is being invaded by the same cobweb substance that previously enveloped the TARDIS. The travellers enter the underground base of the army, and meet the man in charge of operations, Colonel Lethbridge Stewart. The Doctor and Travers work alongside, but it becomes apparent that one of the base's occupants is a traitor. They discover that the Intelligence controls the mind of Staff Sergeant Arnold, and the web overruns the base. The Doctor is forced to surrender, as the Intelligence now holds Travers and Victoria hostage. The Intelligence attempts to drain the Doctor's mind with the use of a helmet placed on his head, but the Doctor has reversed the polarities, and instead attempts to drain the Intelligence. He almost succeeds before he is rescued by Jamie, leaving the Intelligence free once more.
