The hapless Ned Tedford and his pot plant Gladys have taken on new work in a mobile platform on the ocean floor, collecting toxic waste for Hydrexler. Unfortunately for Ned, a fire breaks out in a rear compartment, causing his rig’s systems to go out of control. Hearing Ned’s cry for help, John immediately dispatches his brothers Virgil and Alan in <I>Thunderbird 2</I>, equipped with Pod 4’s </I>Thunderbird 4</I>.  John then contacts the CEO of Hydrexler, the slimy Hector Ambro, but becomes suspicious when the man seems more concerned for the rig’s poisonous payload rather than its crew. Overhearing the conversation, Gordon then contacts Lady Penelope and asks for her aid as Monitor for the World Heritage Society; Penny is only too happy to help dig up what she can on Hydrexler. <I>Thunderbird 2</I> arrives in the danger zone and deploys </I>Thunderbird 4</I>. Gordon quickly locates the mobile platform, just as it experiences a power loss and draws to a halt; Gordon uses his sub’s grabber-arms to open a hatch and put out the fire inside. Back in FAB 1, Penelope contacts Ambro and orders a surprise inspection of his refinery; convinced that the video-image of the CEO was a fake, Penny tells John that Hydrexler could be a front for the Hood. Meanwhile, at Hydrexler HQ, the Hood realises that his plot to use the toxic waste to pollute the world’s water supply and then charge a fortune to clean it up is now at risk; he despatches three henchmen on motorbikes with instructions to take out FAB 1. Back at the mobile platform, Ned finds that his rig has changed course and is now heading straight for an undersea cliff – and if his deadly cargo breaks open under the intense water pressure, it will cause a global catastrophe…
