On a mission to collect samples of the sun, the <I>Sun Probe</I> rocket is launched from Cape Kennedy with three solarnauts aboard. But the operation goes terribly wrong when high levels of radiation prevent the probe’s control systems from firing the retro rockets, and the crew find themselves locked in a collision course with the sun. Using Brains' latest equipment, Alan and Scott set off into space on board <I>Thunderbird 3</I>, while Virgil and Brains take <I>Thunderbird 2</I> to a snowy mountaintop in order to activate a signal transmitter to steer the rogue spacecraft to safety. However, the terrific heat soon affects the crew of <I>Thunderbird 3</I>, and the craft begins to crash into the sun…
