But when the machine crosses a dumping ground for military equipment, the earth suddenly gives way and it falls into a blazing pit of fire. General Peters mounts a rescue attempt using military helicopters to retrieve the three man crew trapped inside the vehicle, but they are unable to pull the <I>Sidewinder</I>free.
