The Doctor

The Black Guardian forces Turlough to sabotage the TARDIS, which causes it to materialise on a spaceship. The Doctor meets Kari and Olvir, two space pirates that have recently boarded the liner in search of treasure, while Tegan and Turlough find themselves lost in the ship's infrastructure. After the liner docks at a huge space station, Terminus, a multitude of haggard figures emerge from sealed compartments and make their way through the corridors towards the ship's airlocks. Olvir suddenly realises that they are victims of Lazar's disease - the ship is full of lepers, who have come to Terminus for a cure. Nyssa becomes infected by the disease, and encounters the Vanir, the armoured human crew of the station, held in check by the Terminus Inc - the company that owns the station - through the use of hydromel, a pain-killing drug that the crew are dependant on. Nyssa is taken for treatment to the huge, dog-like alien known as the Garm, who treats her with radiation; she realises that although crude, the treatment does in fact work - she is cured. Meanwhile, the Doctor and Kari discover that Terminus was once capable of time travel, and that when the pilot of Terminus jettisoned an unstable engine into a void, the resultant colossal explosion caused the Big Bang that created the universe. Terminus's other engine is about to explode, which will mean the end of the universe, but he manages to elicit the aid of the Gram, and together they deactivate the engine in time. Nyssa stays on Terminus in order to synthesise hydromel, freeing the Vanir from the company's power, and aid them in effectively curing the Lazars.
