As Starfleet orders are to inspect any galactic phenomena encountered, Lieutenant Commander Spock, Doctor McCoy, Chief Engineer Scott and four crewmen leave in the Galileo shuttlecraft to study the cluster. However, when the shuttlecraft is suddenly pulled off course, Spock just manages to crash-land the vessel on the foggy, rocky surface of the planet Taurus II. Out of sensor range of the Enterprise, facing hostile attacks by the giant humanoids who live on the planet, and breaking into petty arguments due to the pressure, the seven crewmembers attempt to make repairs on the shuttle and return to their ship. Meanwhile, the Enterprise is unable to find the shuttlecraft due to ionisation of its instruments. Captain Kirk is ordered by Commissioner Ferris to abandon the search and proceed with his mission to deliver the supplies. The captain faces a tough decision - the lives of his crewmen against the lives of the population of Hansen's Planet...

William Shatner (Captain James Tiberius Kirk), Leonard Nimoy (First Officer Lieutenant Commander Spock), DeForest Kelley (Doctor Leonard H.
