When Captain Kirk and a landing party beam down to the planet Gamma Trianguli VI, they discover what appears to be a beautiful paradise. However, shortly after their arrival they learn to their cost that the idyllic surroundings are in fact lethal, as several crewmen are killed by exploding rocks, plants that shoot deadly thorns, and uncannily accurate bolts of lightning. Kirk and the surviving party members then encounter the 'Feeders of Vaal', the planet's peaceful, child-like inhabitants. These innocent natives dressed in pretty flowers and bright paint have no need to reproduce because they never age or die; their only occupation is to feed their god Vaal offerings of food. Kirk and the others are taken to see Vaal, which is a large, serpent's head carved out of rock; however, the <I>Enterprise</I> team soon learns that Vaal is actually the terminal for an advanced, powerful computer located deep underground. Vaal now sees Kirk and his party as a threat to the paradise it has created for its worshippers; it takes them prisoner and then proceeds to pull the <I>Enterprise</I> out of orbit...
