A Starfleet propulsion expert named Kosinski comes aboard the <I>U.S.S. Enterprise</I> to carry out tests on the ship's propulsion system. But when the experiment goes wrong, the vessel is hurled out of the galaxy and sent more than a billion light years away ino uncharted territory. Captain Picard and his crew find themselves inside a strange realm in which the physical and mental worlds are integrated - anything that they think becomes solid and real. The real reason for the accident is in fact Kosinski’s assistant, a humanoid alien known only as the Traveler; only he can get the <I>Enterprise</I> crew back to their home galaxy - but he now lies exhausted and on the verge of death…
