However, something goes wrong, and he suffers a complete memory loss. After wandering into a nearby village, he is taken in by a kindly man named Garvin and his daughter, Gia; as Data rediscovers speech, he realises that he can read the lettering on the container he brought with him: Radioactive ; Garvin unwittingly opens the box, and exposes himself to the deadly contents. Later, Garvin takes Data to meet the village scientist, Talur; she examines Data and pronounces him fit, albeit with a strange heartbeat, and surmises that he is an iceman , one of a race of people believed to live in the harsh mountain region. Gia then names her new friend Jayden . Garvin takes Data to Skoran, the village blacksmith, to see if he can identify the metal fragments; intrigued by the unique metal, Skoran offers to buy some of the pieces to make into jewellery; Data agrees to sell him half, keeping the rest as clues to his identity. Just then, an anvil falls on one of the other smiths, and as he cries out in agony, Data surprises everyone by lifting it with ease. Some time later, as Data and Gia return home from a school lesson, Garvin suddenly falls ill; Talur tries to treat him, and then Data takes Gia to the village for supplies; however, they are shocked to learn that the mysterious sickness has spread there as well. Skoran s new jewellery has proved very popular - but has a deadly effect that no-one foresaw&

Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William Thomas Riker), LeVar Burton (Chief Engineer Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge), Michael Dorn (Security Chief Lieutenant Worf), Gates McFadden (Doctor Beverly Crusher), Marina Sirtis (Councelor Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Lieutenant Commander Data), Ronnie Claire Edwards (Talur), Michael Rothhaar (Garvin), Kimberly Cullum (Gia), Michael G.
