Enterprise is visited by Sarek, renowned Vulcan Ambassador and father of Spock, who is on a mission to establish relations between the Federation and the Legaran. Sarek is accompanied by his wife, Perrin; his human Chief of Staff, Mendrossen; and his personal assistant, a young Vulcan named Sakkath. Mendrossen explains to Captain Picard that because of his age, Sarek tires easily, and asks to dispense with the official ceremonies that are normally held for a visitor of Sarek's rank; although disappointed that Sarek will be unable to attend a concert arranged on his behalf, Picard agrees to Mendrossen's wishes, but extends a personal invitation to the concert to Perrin. After becoming annoyed with his apparent inability to meditate, Sarek decides to attend the concert with his entourage, surprising Picard by becoming moved to tears by the music, despite his Vulcan doctrine of emotional stoicism. Soon after, the Enterprise crew experiences bouts of anger and violence: Doctor Crusher slaps her son Wesley, and then a brawl breaks out in the Ten Forward bar. Counselor Troi and Doctor Crusher soon learn that Sarek is suffering from a rare Vulcan condition called Bendii syndrome, and his loss of emotional control is projecting itself on the people around him&

Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William Thomas Riker), LeVar Burton (Chief Engineer Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge), Michael Dorn (Security Chief Lieutenant Worf), Gates McFadden (Doctor Beverly Crusher), Marina Sirtis (Councelor Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Lieutenant Commander Data), Wil Wheaton (Ensign Wesley Crusher), Mark Lenard (Sarek), Joanna Miles (Perrin), William Denis (Ki Mendrossen), Rocco Sisto (Sakkath), Colm Meaney (Transporter Chief Miles O Brien), John H.
