Enterprise crew find the science vessel U.S.S. Brattain adrift in space, they discover that everyone on board is dead, except for the ship s scientific advisor, a Betazoid named Hagan. Counselor Troi attempts to talk to the survivor, but he is catatonic and withdrawn; meanwhile, Lieutenant LaForge is unable to determine anything wrong with the Brattain s engines, but is still unable to make them work. Doctor Crusher carries out autopsies on each of the dead men and women, concluding that they all killed each other. Troi begins to experience strange nightmares, in which she finds herself flying through clouds while a mysterious voice says "Eyes in the dark, one moon circles..." While LaForge makes preparations to tow the Brattain, the Enterprise crew begins to show signs of irritability and paranoia; Troi and Beverly warn Captain Picard that what occurred on the doomed Brattain is now happening on board the Enterprise, but when Picard gives the order to leave the engines immediately shut down. The captain and crew continue to lose their grip on reality, and only Lieutenant Commander is unaffected; the android soon surmises that both ships are trapped in a Tyken's Rift, a massive rift in space that is now draining their energy. Beverly realises that the Brattain s crew went insane due to dream deprivation - and if they do not leave the rift soon, the crew of Enterprise will soon suffer the same terrible fate&

Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William Thomas Riker), LeVar Burton (Chief Engineer Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge), Michael Dorn (Security Chief Lieutenant Worf), Gates McFadden (Doctor Beverly Crusher), Marina Sirtis (Councelor Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Lieutenant Commander Data), Rosalind Chao (Keiko Ishikawa O'Brien), John Vickery (Andrus Hagan), Duke Moosekian (Ensign Gillespie), Craig Hurley (Ensign Peeples), Brian Tochi (Ensign Kenny Lin), Lanei Chapman (Ensign Rager), Colm Meaney (Transporter Chief Miles O Brien), Whoopi Goldberg (Guinan), Deborah Taylor (Captain Chantel R.
