Enterprise discovers that Moab IV, although believed to be uninhabited, is in fact home to a human colony. Captain Picard contacts the colony's leader, Aaron Conor, with an offer to help evacuate his people; however, Conor informs him that the colony has been genetically-engineered to be superior to normal humans, and is completely in tune with its surroundings - any attempt to uproot it would be disastrous for the social fabric of their society. After Conor agrees to work with the Enterprise crew to find an alternate solution, LaForge beams down to the colony s biosphere and teams up with an attractive scientist named Hannah Bates. They decide to use a multi-phase tractor-beam to deal with the stellar fragment, but after three days work, very little progress has been made. However, a discussion over the technology of Geordi s VISOR gives them the idea of harnessing its data-compression features to solve the technical problems they are experiencing. Elsewhere, Counselor Troi finds herself harbouring romantic feelings for Conor, while Captain Picard is concerned over the ethics of genetic engineering. Without realising it, the crew of the Enterprise are about to contaminate the perfect society&

Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William Thomas Riker), LeVar Burton (Chief Engineer Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge), Michael Dorn (Security Chief Lieutenant Worf), Gates McFadden (Doctor Beverly Crusher), Marina Sirtis (Councelor Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Lieutenant Commander Data), John Synder (Aaron Conor), Dey Young (Hannah Bates), Ron Canada (Marcus Benbeck), Sheila Franklin (Ensign Felton)

Directed by Winrich Kolbe
Co-Produced by Joe Menosky, Ronald D.
