Enterprise arrives at Starbase 310; while a rather preoccupied Wesley Crusher, currently on leave from Starfleet Academy, comes aboard, Captain Picard meets with Admiral Nechayev; the admiral informs him that a new agreement between the Federation and the Cardassians has altered the borders between the two powers, the result being that several Federation colonies now lie in what has become Cardassian territory; the Enterprise is to head for Dorvan V, and evacuate a twenty-year-old settlement of North American Indians. Picard is uncomfortable with the assignment, reminding Nechayev that, centuries before, the American Indians were unjustly forced off their land, but Nechayev is resolute in her orders. Picard and Counselor Troi meet with the colony's tribal council, only to learn that for spiritual reasons they will not leave; however, they do agree to reconvene the following day for dinner with the Enterprise crew. Later, Wesley argues with his mother, telling her that he is tired of living up to expectations. At the dinner, Picard discusses the tribe's history with its leader, Anthwara, while Wesley meets a man named Lakanta, who tells him that he saw Wesley in a vision quest two years ago, and knew that he would be coming to find the answers he is looking for. It is the beginning of a spiritual odyssey for Wesley - one that will take him far away from the Enterprise and his family...

Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William Thomas Riker), LeVar Burton (Chief Engineer Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge), Michael Dorn (Security Chief Lieutenant Worf), Gates McFadden (Doctor Beverly Crusher), Marina Sirtis (Councelor Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Lieutenant Commander Data), Wil Wheaton (Ensign Wesley Crusher), Tom Jackson (Lakanta), Natalija Nogulich (Admiral Necheyev), Ned Romero (Anthwara), George Aguilar (Wakasa), Richard Poe (Gul Evek), Eric Menyuk (Traveller), Doug Wert (Jack Crusher)

Directed by Corey Allen
Produced by Ronald D.
