Enterprise receives a distress call from Lieutenant Worf's foster brother, Nikolai Rozhenko, currently a cultural observer stationed on Boraal II; the planet's atmosphere is being wiped out by plasmonic reactions, and will be destroyed in less than thirty-eight hours. The Boraalans have a low-technological society, and so Worf beams down to the surface disguised as a native; he quickly finds his brother, also disguised as a Boraalan, waiting in a cave together with several villagers. When the two brothers return to the Enterprise, Nikolai asks Captain Picard to help save some of the villagers from the impending disaster; however, the captain refuses, stating that it would violate the Prime Directive, and he then orders Nikolai to remain on board the ship. However, after the planet has been destroyed, Worf detects a power drain; an investigation traces the fault to the Holodeck - where the Klingon is shocked to find that Nikolai has created a replica of the village, and is now hiding the Boraalan villagers inside it...

Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William Thomas Riker), LeVar Burton (Chief Engineer Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge), Michael Dorn (Security Chief Lieutenant Worf), Gates McFadden (Doctor Beverly Crusher), Marina Sirtis (Councelor Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Lieutenant Commander Data), Penny Johnson (Dobara), Brian Markinson (Vorin), Edward Penn (Kateras), Paul Sorvino (Nikolai), Susan Christy (Tarrana), Majel Barrett (Computer Voice)

Directed by Alexander Singer
Produced by Ronald D.
