Enterprise visits the desolate world of Velara III, where a group of terraformers are attempting to transform the planet into one capable of supporting life. But after one of the terraformers is killed in a bizarre hydraulic room accident, Data is attacked by the laser drilling system; the android is able to escape unharmed, and, together with Lieutenant Geordi La Forge, begins an investigation into the strange events. The two officers discover a microscopic inorganic life-form which seems to be attempting to communicate with them; they take the "microbrain" back to the ship for studying, but the creature produces an energy field and then starts reproducing inside the medical laboratory. Data and Geordi find a way to talk to the microbrain and learn that the terraformers' drilling killed some of its fellow creatures; when all attempts at communicating with the engineers were ignored, the life-forms retaliated by killing the engineer in the hydraulic room - and they have now declared war on the human race&

Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William Thomas Riker), LeVar Burton (Lieutenant Geordi La Forge), Denise Crosby (Security Chief Lieutenant Natasha Tasha Yar), Michael Dorn (Lieutenant Worf), Gates McFadden (Doctor Beverly Crusher), Marina Sirtis (Councelor Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Lieutenant Commander Data), Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher), Walter Gotell (Kurt Mandl), Elizabeth Lindsey (Louisa Kim), Gerard Prendergast (Bjorn Benson), Mario Roccuzzo (Arthur Malencon), Carolyne Barry (Female Engineer)

Directed by Corey Allen
Produced by Maurice Hurley
Executive Producer Gene Roddenberry

TX:
22nd February, 1988

Notes:
*Featuring Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Commander William Thomas Riker, Lieutenant Geordi La Forge, Security Chief Lieutenant Natasha Tasha Yar, Lieutenant Worf, Doctor Beverly Crusher, Councelor Deanna Troi, Lieutenant Commander Data and Wesley Crusher
