The U.S.S. Enterprise engages in battle with the mercenaries vessel; realising that they have only been hit with minimal power, Lieutenant Commander Data - now acting captain - surmises that it is a ruse by Commander Riker; he orders simulated damage and then returns fire at low power - enough to make the mercenaries to flee, although he chooses to let them go; meanwhile, Lieutenant LaForge begins decoding a carrier-wave pattern detected in a signal used by Riker during the attack. Tallera is still suspicious of Picard, but her questions are interrupted when his tests on the stolen artefacts indicate that they have found what they are searching for. Baran is pleased at the news; however, he has now been completely taken in by Riker s apparent change of loyalty, and instructs him to kill Picard. Back on the Enterprise, Data discovers that the coded message is a flight plan for the raider s ship, and he sends the Enterprise in pursuit. Riker informs Picard of Baran s orders, and reveals that they are now heading for the Hyralan sector to collect the artefact from a Klingon transport ship; Picard tells him that the artefacts are not Romulan in origin, but are actually Vulcan. They decide to start a mutiny, but it is not long before Tallera confronts Picard at gunpoint and orders him to reveal his real identity, and in turn reveals that she is a Vulcan officer; that artefacts they are searching for are fragments of the mythical Stone of Gol, which she believes is being sought by a Vulcan isolationist group; the stone is a psionic resonator, a device capable of focusing and amplifying telepathic energy - and if it were to be reassembled and used by a trained telepath, it could eliminate the entire Vulcan council with a single thought&

Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William Thomas Riker), LeVar Burton (Chief Engineer Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge), Michael Dorn (Security Chief Lieutenant Worf), Gates McFadden (Doctor Beverly Crusher), Marina Sirtis (Councelor Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Lieutenant Commander Data), Richard Lynch (Baran), Robin Curtis (Tallera), Caitlin Brown (Vekor), Cameron Thor (Narik), James Worthy (Koral), Sabrina LeBeauf (Ensign Giusti), Martin Goslins (Setok)

Directed by Alexander Singer
Produced by Ronald D.
