Enterprise, Commander Riker rehearses for his lead role in Frame of Mind , a harrowing play set inside a lunatic asylum. Later, Captain Picard assigns him on an undercover mission to Tilonus IV, a world where the government has collapsed, and a Federation research group has disappeared. While training with Lieutenant Worf, Riker accidentally receives a cut on his temple; he visits Doctor Crusher in Sickbay, but the wound still hurts after being treated, and when Riker then sees a certain alien crewmember he becomes convinced that the man is following him. Riker mentions the incident to Counselor Troi, but she attributes his mild paranoia to his getting into the character of the mental patient in the play. However, at the opening performance of Frame of Mind , Riker is shocked when the audience suddenly disappears and the set becomes a real cell; an alien therapist named Doctor Syrus appears and informs him that the play is merely a delusion, and that he is in a Tilonus mental hospital. An attendant named Mavek escorts him to the Common Area, where Riker sees a doctor who looks just like the alien he saw following him around the Enterprise. Can it be that Riker s entire time aboard the Federation starship is nothing but the fantasy of an unhinged mind - or is there another, more sinister explanation& ?

Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William Thomas Riker), LeVar Burton (Chief Engineer Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge), Michael Dorn (Security Chief Lieutenant Worf), Gates McFadden (Doctor Beverly Crusher), Marina Sirtis (Councelor Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Lieutenant Commander Data), David Selburg (Doctor Syrus), Andrew Prine (Administrator), Gary Werntz (Mavek), Susanna Thompson (Inmate), Allan Dean Moore (Wounded Crewmember)

Directed by James L.
