When the Malcorian doctors realise that that their patient is not from their world, Riker attempts to convince them that his physical differences are merely deformities; however, the doctors ignore his claims, and decide to keep the presence of an alien a secret to avoid a panic amongst the population. Concerned at Riker s disappearance, Captain Picard and Counselor Troi beam down to the office of Mirasta, the Malcorian Minister of Science, in an attempt to enlist her aid in locating their missing comrade; to prove their claims, they arrange for the enthusiastic Mirasta to beam aboard the <I>U.S.S. Enterprise</I>, where they reveal that they have been monitoring her people for several years. After Mirasta agrees to help them find Riker, the Malcorian leader, Chancellor Durken, is also beamed aboard the ship; he meets Picard, who eventually convinces him that the intentions of the Federation are not hostile. However, when Durken returns to his planet his Minister of Internal Security, Krola, insists that the <I>U.S.S.
