Kwan's logs show him to be a happy person, and his girlfriend, Ensign Calloway, tells them that he seemed fine the day he took his own life; only Kwan's supervisor says anything out of the ordinary, remarking that he felt threatened by his presence. Investigating the scene of the incident, Troi is suddenly overwhelmed by a flood of emotions, sensing panic and fear, which Doctor Crusher attributes to an empathic echo left behind by Kwan, a partial empath. Worf seeks Commander Riker's approval to become involved with Troi; later, he and Troi return to Nacelle Control, where Troi suddenly finds herself in an unfinished version of the same room; she sees a terrified woman and a strange, staring man, and then the same woman embracing a different man. When she informs Captain Picard of her experience, he suggests that she saw the room as it was eight years ago, during the Enterprise's construction - which Lieutenant Kwan worked on. Believing her vision to have been seen through Kwan's eyes, Troi and Worf search through the construction project's personnel files, and identify the staring man as Lieutenant Walter Pierce, currently working in Engineering. But when they question him, Pierce denies working with Kwan at that time; however, Troi senses that Pierce has empathic ability, and is hiding something. She and Worf continue their investigation - and soon uncover a murder aboard the ship&

Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William Thomas Riker), LeVar Burton (Chief Engineer Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge), Michael Dorn (Security Chief Lieutenant Worf), Gates McFadden (Doctor Beverly Crusher), Marina Sirtis (Councelor Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Lieutenant Commander Data), Mark Rolston (Walter Pierce), Nancy Harewood (Lieutenant Nara), Tim Lounibos (Lieutenant Kwan), Johanna McCloy (Calloway), Nora Leonhardt (Woman), Dugan Savoye (Man), Majel Barrett (Computer Voice)

Directed by Cliff Bole
Produced by Ronald D.
