Enterprise</I> crew and demands that they remove a human colony from the planet Tau Cygna V; according to a Federation treaty, this world belongs to the Sheliak, and if the human  vermin living on their property are not evacuated in four days then the Sheliak will kill them all. Captain Picard and his officers learn that the colonists have adapted to the high radiation levels on Tau Cygna V over several generations, meaning that only Lieutenant Commander Data will be able to beam down to talk to them.
