Enterprise, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his crew are assigned to negotiate a friendly agreement with the Bandi, inhabitants of the planet Deneb IV, whose energy-powered Farpoint station appears to be an ideal location for Starfleet to use; intriguingly, the station seems to have almost magical qualities, and one s every wish quickly becomes a reality. But while en route to Farpoint the Enterprise crew encounters Q, a mysterious and arrogant being with seemingly omnipotent powers. After transporting Picard, Councelor Deanna Troi and Security Officer Tasha Yar into a bizarre courtroom scene, Q denounces the human race as barbarians and then challenges the Enterprise crew to prove otherwise - if Picard is not persuasive in the defence of his race, then he and his crew will be sentenced to death. Picard manages to convince Q that his forthcoming mission at Farpoint will be the perfect opportunity to prove that humans, unlike Q, have learned not to judge and prosecute that which they do not understand; Q accepts the captain s proposal, allowing him just twenty-four hours to solve the mystery of the station. Arriving at Farpoint, Picard meets his new First Officer, Commander William Riker; his Science Officer, an android named Data; and Doctor Beverly Crusher, together with her brilliant but precocious son, Wesley. Picard and his officers begin their investigation of the station, but they soon discover that Farpoint conceals a secret that they could never have imagined&

Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William Thomas Riker), LeVar Burton (Lieutenant Geordi La Forge), Denise Crosby (Security Chief Lieutenant Natasha Tasha Yar), Michael Dorn (Lieutenant Worf), Gates McFadden (Doctor Beverly Crusher), Marina Sirtis (Councelor Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Lieutenant Commander Data), Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher), John de Lancie (Q), Michael Bell (Bandi Groppler - Zorn), DeForest Kelley (Doctor Leonard McCoy), Colm Meaney (Battle Bridge Conn), Cary-Hiroyuki (Mandarin Bailiff), Timothy Dang (Main Bridge Security), David Erskine (Bandi Shopkeeper), Evelyn Guerrero (Young Female Ensign), Chuck Hicks (Military Officer), Jimmy Ortega (Torres)

Directed by Corey Allen
Produced by Maurice Hurley
Executive Producer Gene Roddenberry

TX:
28th September, 1987

Notes:
*Featuring Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Commander William Thomas Riker, Lieutenant Geordi La Forge, Security Chief Lieutenant Natasha Tasha Yar, Lieutenant Worf, Doctor Beverly Crusher, Councelor Deanna Troi, Lieutenant Commander Data, Wesley Crusher , Miles O Brien and Doctor Leonard McCoy
<BR*This is a double-length episode
