Enterprise</I> passes through the quadrant Korona IV, Captain Picard learns that the inhabitants, the insect-like Jarada, demand that he give them a precise greeting in their language. Finding the task to be exceptionally difficult, Picard decides to take a break by visiting the holodeck, to enjoy a scenario based upon Dixon Hill, a fictional private eye in 1941 San Francisco; he is soon joined by Lieutenant Commander Data, Doctor Beverly Crusher and Whalen, the ship's historian.
