Enterprise from a routine mission at the Tanuga IV science station, the director of the facility, Doctor Apgar, is killed in an explosion. When Apgar's widow, Manua, and his assistant Tanya then accuse Riker of threatening Apgar, Chief Investigator Krag of the Tanugan security force arrives to take the commander into custody on a charge of murder. But when Captain Picard refuses to release his First Officer until reasonable evidence is given, the holodeck is used to recreate the events leading up to the explosion by programming it with the testimonies of Riker, Manua and Tanya, and information taken from Apgar's personal journal. However, the accounts of the other witnesses show that Riker tried to seduce Manua and arrogantly intimidated her husband. Meanwhile, Lieutenant LaForge, Lieutenant Commander Data and Ensign Crusher attempt to determine the cause of a power drain that occurred as Riker was being beamed back to the ship, and also the source of the energy blast that caused the explosion; using evidence from Krag they learn that the energy source came from Riker's position as he was transporting - meaning that he could have fired his phaser at Apgar...

Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William Thomas Riker), LeVar Burton (Chief Engineer Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge), Michael Dorn (Security Chief Lieutenant Worf), Gates McFadden (Doctor Beverly Crusher), Marina Sirtis (Councelor Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Lieutenant Commander Data), Wil Wheaton (Ensign Wesley Crusher), Craig Richard Nelson (Krag), Gina Hecht (Manua Apgar), Mark Margolis (Doctor Nel Apgar), Colm Meaney (Transporter Chief Miles O Brien), Juli Donald (Tayna)

Directed by Cliff Bole
Co-Produced by Hans Beimler and Richard Manning
Produced by Ira Steven Behr
Executive Producers Rick Berman and Gene Roddenberry

TX:
12th February, 1990

Notes:
*Featuring Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Commander William Thomas Riker, Chief Engineer Lieutenant Geordi La Forge, Security Chief Lieutenant Worf, Doctor Beverly Crusher, Councelor Deanna Troi, Lieutenant Commander Data, Transporter Chief Miles O Brien and Ensign Wesley Crusher
