'The Wild Hunt' by Diana Ayers Susan Sebastian

Attempting a relaxing weekend away in the countryside, Ian and Randi get lost and end up in a run-down seaside village seemingly stuck in the 1950s. When their car subsequently breaks down, the duo are forced to find somewhere to stay, only-too aware that a full moon is due the next the night. Taking a room at ‘The Argyle’ pub, Ian and Randi receive a less-than friendly welcome from the locals – all except for a young man named Dave, who asks their help in escaping the village, believing himself to be a marked man after his wife Mary was beheaded by a phantom huntsman on horseback. Ian is sceptical, but Randi soon becomes convinced after she looks out her bedroom window that night and sees the horseman decapitate Dave in the middle of the street. Discovering her bedroom door branded with a strange mark daubed in blood, Randi resolves to find what is going on in the village; she and Ian soon uncover the villagers’ terrible secret: many years ago the entire population were complicit in the murder of a huntsman, so that they could secure rights to his land. As a result the village prospered and its people never aged; however, every hunting season, the ghost of their victim returns to take his bloody revenge – and now Ian and Randi have been marked as his next victims…
