Ian and Randi

A married yuppie couple’s dinner ends in tragedy when the wife, Holly, is possessed by a copy of ‘Alice in Wonderland‘: transformed into the homicial Red Queen, she cuts off her husband’s head... The next day, Ian is excited at finishing his latest text book, which he happily admits is a dull acedemic tome; however, when he takes his work to his publishers he discovers that they have been bought out by ‘TriX’‚a multinational corporation only interested in commercialised, trashy literature. The new editor, Mel Berger, offers Ian a deal: if hejazzes up his book, adding plenty of sex and violence, then they will publish it; stuck for inspiration, Ian turns to Aunt Elsa for help. Back at ‘TriX’, a boardroom meeting with the publisher is interrupted when a copy of ‘Moby Dick’posesses Mel: turned into the bearded, peg-legged Captain Ahab, Mel harpoons his overbearing boss through the heart... Learning of the recent literature-themed murders, Ian and Randi decide to investigate the bookshop that sent the books, ‘Ganza Antiquarian Books’. The owner, Gordon Ganza, is pleased to meet Ian, recognising him as the author of ‘Face of Fear‘, and admits that he is pleased that the bookselling conglomerates are being targetted by a murderer, because specialist shops like his are being squeezed out of business. Exploring the shop, Randi becomes suspicious when a copy of ‘Anna Karenina’ jumps off the shelf at her; Ian scoffs at her fears and buys her the book – but when they leave, Randi is transformed into the novel‘s Russian heroine and compelled to commit suicide by jumping into the path of a speeding lorry...
