“Life on Earth can be an adventure too – you just need to know where to look.” – Sarah Jane Smith

When feisty reporter Sarah Jane Smith met a mysterious man known as ‘The Doctor’, her life was changed forever; whisked off in his time and space machine, the TARDIS, Sarah suddenly found herself walking on strange new worlds, taking in breathtaking sights and encountering bizarre alien life forms the likes of which she never dreamed possible. Together with her new best friend, Sarah helped good triumph over evil, battling shape-shifting monsters, anti-matter creatures, evil Egyptian gods, prehistoric dinosaurs, giant spiders, the Loch Ness Monster and, the deadliest of them all, the dreaded Daleks. But then Sarah’s travels with the Doctor were brought to an abrupt end, and she was unceremoniously dumped back on Earth. Sarah thought her adventures would be over, but life still had more surprises in store for her; together with her trusty robot dog, K-9 (a gift from the Doctor), Sarah continued to fight injustice, facing threats such as black magic covens, immoral multi-national corporations and ruthless scientific institutions.

Then, years later, the Doctor came back into Sarah's life… While investigating strange goings-on at a school Sarah was reunited with her old friend, and helped him and his latest travelling companion, Rose, to thwart the plans of an evil race of bat-like creatures called Krillitanes. Sarah finally achieved closure by telling the Doctor how she felt about him, but when he offered her the chance to travel with him once more, Sarah turned him down, knowing that life on Earth can be a just as much of an adventure too.

Filled with new purpose, Sarah began tracking down stranded aliens and helping them return home, whilst continuing the fight against invading alien menaces. As well as K-9, Sarah is aided by an alien supercomputer called Mr Smith; her adopted son Luke, whom she met while thwarting an invasion attempt by the octopoid Bane; her inquisitive neighbour, Maria Jackson; and school friends Clyde Langer and Rani Chandra.

Created by the prolific Russell T Davies, ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’ is another spin-off from the revitalised series of ‘Doctor Who’. It’s witty, scary, fast-paced and extremely good fun, certainly living up to the expectations set by its parent programme. So far there have been a Christmas Special and two series of adventures; a third series is due to begin transmission in September 2009, in which Sarah, Luke, Clyde and Rani will face a new alien race, the reptilian Veil, and their enemies the Judoon; an extraterrestrial girl who can make people play games against their will; a living painting; the inhabitants of a supposedly haunted house; monsters who want to infect Earth with a strangely aggressive weed; and a chance for Sarah Jane to find personal happiness with someone who could be the perfect person to complete her family – and as if all that isn’t enough, David Tennant will appear in two episodes as the Tenth Doctor!
