He builds himself a raft and heads out to sea - and freedom. After drifting for several days, he is found by two German gun-runners, who ransack his provisions and dump him into the sea. Number 6 recovers and boards the boat, throwing its crew overboard and seizing control of the vessel. He makes his way across the ocean and eventually arrives in London, where he informs his previous superiors in the government about the Village.
