When Number 6 witnesses the latest Number 2 cruelly interrogating a young girl known as Number 73, he becomes enraged when the distraught girl commits suicide by throwing herself out of a window. Number 6 decides to avenge her death by starting a war of nerves, and begins to act suspiciously. He leaves messages concerning Number 2’s mental instability to an imaginary contact, XO4, and then pretends to receive orders form his superiors via a recording of ‘L’Arlesienne’. Driven into the depths of paranoia, Number 2 becomes obsessed with uncovering the conspiracy against him…
