Connor is forced to curtail a date with Caroline to give a presentation at the Anomaly Research Centre; once he has left Caroline uses her phone to send a picture of Rex to an unknown recipient… At the A.R.C., Connor unveils his new anomaly detector to the team; everyone is impressed – all except Oliver, who wonders why the report of a creature sighting he just received failed to register on the equipment. Nick, Stephen, Abby, Connor and Jenny immediately head for the Blue Sky holiday park, where the body of a paintballer has been found covered with deep claws marks; however, with no portal detected in the area this time, they suspect the culprit is a ‘big cat’ rather than a dinosaur. Hiding the text message from Helen he just received, Stephen sets off to track the animal; meanwhile, Jenny and Nick meet with the park manager, Peter Campbell, and his deputy, Valerie Irwin; Peter is reticent to shut down the whole park, but grudgingly agrees to close the paintballing section. The Portal team’s search for the creature is hampered by the many holidaymakers bustling about the place, all unaware of the danger they are in. Hearing sudden commotion Connor grabs a rifle and races to intercept what he believes to be the creature, causing panic as he pushes through the terrified visitors; however, all he succeeds in finding is Peter, dressed in a lion costume and extremely angry at being shot at. Following up a lead on illegally imported animals, Nick and Jenny investigate the nearby West Farm, only to learn that the owner is merely breeding guard dogs. As night falls, Nick, Stephen, Connor and Abby don night-vision goggles to search the surrounding woodland; to Stephen’s surprise he is approached Valerie, whose jeep has apparently broken down, and so he offers to give her a lift home; while en route Stephen and Valerie stop to investigate a commotion at the train station, where they find that Peter has just been mauled to death by a Smilodon – a huge, vicious Sabre-Toothed Tiger – which runs off into the woods as they approach. Learning that the incident has been photographed by a lone trainspotter, Jenny uses her feminine wiles to obtain the pictures; however, it isn’t long before images of the sabre-tooth appear online on a news website. The following morning, Nick and the team begin setting traps for the Smilodon; but as Abby uses a mechanical digger to create a pit, she unearths a grisly sight: the corpse of a man who has been savagely mauled. Investigation shows that the body was buried weeks ago, meaning the sabre-tooth has been around for longer than everyone thought – and that someone is deliberately trying to cover up its presence…
