What lies beneath may be the end!"
Astronaut Brent is sent into space to find and rescue George Taylor and his crew, whose ship mysteriously disappeared whilst on an exploratory mission. Brent s ship encounters the same warp that theirs did, and crashes onto the desert surface of an unknown planet. Investigating the barren surroundings, Taylor encounters a group of primitive humans, one of which, a girl named Nova, wears Taylor s astronaut dog-tags around her neck. Brent is astonished to learn that the masters of this strange world are none other than intelligent apes, who treat humans like animals, and rule the planet in a grip of steel. Nova leads Brent into the Forbidden Zone, where she last saw Taylor, as he was attacked by a wall of flame and then swallowed up by the ground. Making their way into the underground depths, Brent and Nova discover a religious race of telepathic human mutants, whose god is an atomic bomb capable of destroying the entire world&

James Franciscus (Brent), Kim Hunter (Zira), Maurice Evans (Doctor Zaius), Linda Harrison (Nova), Paul Richards (Mendez), Victor Buono (Fat Man), James Gregory (Ursus), Jeff Corey (Caspay), Natalie Trundy (Albina), Thomas Gomez (Minister), David Watson (Cornelius), Don Pedro Colley (Negro), Tod Andrews (Skipper), Gregory Sierra (Verger), Eldon Burke (Gorilla Sergeant), Charlton Heston (Taylor), Paul Frees (Ending Voice-Over)*, Roddy McDowall (Cornelius [Archive Footage])*, Lou Wagner (Lucius [Archive Footage])*
*Uncredited

Directed by Ted Post
Associate Producer Mort Abrahams
Produced by Arthur P.
