The Doctor

In order to escape the volcanic eruption on the planet Dulkis, caused by the destruction of the Dominators' spaceship, the Doctor uses an emergency unit on the TARDIS console, which takes the ship out of normal space and time. The travellers find themselves in an endless white void, where they are menaced by sinister White Robots. Having regained the safety of the TARDIS, they believe that they have escaped, but the ship suddenly explodes apart, and they then find themselves in the Land of Fiction, where they are hunted by life-size Clockwork Soldiers, and meet characters from Earth's literature, such as Rapunzel and Swift's Gulliver. The domain is presided over by a man known only as the Master, who is actually a writer from the Earth year 1926, who is in turn a slave to a master computer. The Master wants to escape from the realm, and captures Jamie and Zoe, threatening to kill them unless the Doctor to takes his place, while the Master Brain itself plans to take over the Earth. The Doctor engages the Master in a battle of wills, using fictional characters. Meanwhile, Jamie and Zoe have escaped, and manage to overload the Master Brain. In the confusion, the White Robots destroy the computer, freeing the Master from its power.

Notes:
*Featuring the Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe

*Working titles: 'Manpower'(for Ep 1) and 'The Fact of Fiction'

*This story was repackaged in 2023 in omnibus format under the banner of 'Tales of the TARDIS'; it was released on the BBC's iPlayer in the UK only, and had linking scenes featuring Frazer Hines and Wendy Padbury portraying 'memory versions' of their original roles: 'Jamie and Zoe meet again and remember their encounter with robots, clockwork soldiers and Medusa in a Land of Fiction governed by a mysterious master.' [Note: I don't consider this canon, so have not included it in the main story timelines]
