Into the Labyrinth Cast

Phil materialises in Peking during the middle ages and finds himself at Xanadu, the palace of the mighty Kublai Khan, leader of the Mongol Empire. Here he meets the Khan’s son, Prince Aybars, who is deputising for his father while he meditates before the legendary Philosopher’s Stone in his impenetrable shrine. Aybars is furious that his father has left his affairs of state with a foreigner, the Venetian traveller Marco Polo – this era’s aspect of Laslo. After imprisoning Phil in a magical ring of fire, the angry prince departs, leaving the boy in the company of Bram; Belor’s lackey taunts Phil, encouraging the boy to call out for Lazlo so that he can then steal the magician’s magic bracelet. Aybars meets his betrothed, the princess Okulu – Belor in disguise – who asks him for the Philosopher’s Stone so that she can use it to become the perfect wife for her future husband. When Phil’s cries for help go unheeded, Belor boosts them with her magic; learning of Phil’s plight, Polo attempts to use his powers to free his friend, but is too weak from the effects of the green slime infecting his body. Polo turns to Kublai Khan for help, but the aged ruler refuses to grant him more magic power as it would upset the balance of the universe; as a last resort, Polo decides to channel the last of his power to save Phil – even though it may cost him his life. Meanwhile, Princess Okulu convinces Aybars to assassinate his father and take over his kingdom; she gives the prince an explosive device to give to his father, planning to blame the Khan’s murder on Marco…
