The children arrive in the Misión San Antonio de Valero – otherwise known as the Alamo, on 24th February 1836. Here they find Rothgo disguised as Standing Bison, a Red Indian shaman held hostage in a cell; while Phil attempts to convince Standing Bison of his real identity, Terry and Helen encounter Senator Davy Crockett, famed frontiersman and former congressman, and the renowned knife-fighter Colonel Jim Bowie. Texas is struggling for independence from Mexico, and its people are engaged in a revolution to become a ‘lone star state’. The officers and soldiers at the Alamo are currently under siege from the Mexican troops of General Antonio López de Santa Anna, and it is feared that an attack will come in the next three hours. After a woman named Beulah seeks shelter at the Alamo, she and Helen prepare a meal for the troops; however, Belor takes over the woman’s body, casts a trance-inducing spell over Helen, and then banishes the fragment of Nidas that the girl wore around her neck. When Standing Bison casts a set of bones that lands in the shape of a knife, Phil speculates that the Nidas is Bowie’s knife, which was forged from metal found in a meteorite. Beulah arrives with drugged food, which knocks out Bowie and Terry as soon as they taste it; realising what Belor has done, Phil pretends to slip into unconsciousness – powerless to stop Belor, Phil can only look on helplessly as the witch steals the knife from Bowie’s belt…
