The Doctor

At Fetch Priory in contemporary England, Professor Fendelman and his team of scientists, Thea Ransome, Adam Colby and Maximillian Stael, are using a sonic time scanner to experiment upon an anachronistic twelve million year old human skull they have found. When the TARDIS is drawn to the priory by the operation of the scanner, the Doctor unsuccessfully attempts to ward Fendelman of the dangers of the machine. The Doctor realises that the skull is actually an artefact of the Fendahl, an ancient creature that feeds off the life force of others; the creature originated on the fifth planet in Earth's solar system, which was placed in a time loop by the Time Lords millions of years ago, to prevent the creature from destroying all life in the universe. Thea is unaware that she is a medium, and that the Fendahl is attempting to exert its influence over her mind so that it can materialise on Earth. She is eventually transformed into the Fendahl core, while a group of acolytes led by Stael, who is attempting to harness the Fendahl's power for his own plans, are converted into giant slug-like Fendahleen. The Doctor, Leela, Adam, and two locals, Martha Tyler and her son Jack, defend themselves against the Fendahleen using rock salt. The Doctor then uses the scanner to trigger an implosion that destroys the priory and the Fendhal core. He and Leela take the skull to dispose of it into a supernova, removing the threat of the Fendahl forever.
