The Doctor

The TARDIS materialises in a quarry during the present day, where the Doctor and Sarah are caught up in blasting work. Sarah is entombed, and when the Doctor and the quarry workers rescue her, is found clutching a fossilised human hand. An energy force emanating from the hand possesses her, and, slipping on the blue gemstone from one of the hand's fingers, she takes it to the nearby Nunton Nuclear Research and Development complex, where it soaks up the radiation from the reactor core. When the reactor goes critical, the professor in charge, Watson, orders an evacuation. But the resulting release of energy is absorbed by the hand, which it uses to regenerate itself into a body patterned on that of Sarah. Eldrad persuades the Doctor to take her back to her planet, Kastria, where she can regain her heritage. But Kastria is a barren, dead world. Eldrad is shot by a booby trap, and the Doctor and Sarah place her in a regeneration machine, where she changes to her real, masculine form. The time travellers learn that the Kastrians died out millions of years ago, and the race banks were destroyed by Rokon, the last king, who feared that the evil Eldrad would return, and use them for his own twisted ends. Eldrad is furious, and attempts to force the Doctor to return him to Earth, so that he can rule that planet instead. But the Doctor and Sarah use the Doctor's scarf to trip Eldrad into a deep crevasse. Back in the TARDIS, the Doctor receives a telepathic summons to return to Gallifrey. As it is forbidden to take humans to his home planet, the Doctor leaves Sarah on Earth.
