Looking forward to a holiday, the Goodies are disappointed to find that the resorts they have chosen are either covered in oil, covered in detergent, the site of a nuclear power station or suffering from lost atom bombs. However, it looks like Tim’s old Cornish seaside resort of Penrudden Cove is still untarnished, and so the trio set off there – only to find the town deserted except for the local vicar, Reverend Rose. Invited to tea at the vicarage (also the police station, dentist, tea shop, post office, massage parlour and pub, now that the Reverend is running the place single-handedly) Tim, Bill and Graeme learn that strange goings-on at night have frightened off the villagers. With the aid of Graeme’s long-range spying device and Bill’s trusty lemon-sherbet visions, the gang discover that the army have built a top-secret base on the hillside, and are planning to turn the town into a weapons testing area. While the Reverend distracts the guards with a one-man protest rally, the Goodies sneak inside the base and alter the project plans – ensuring that the Brigadier’s men build a new children’s playground instead…
