The Doctor

The Doctor and Mel arrive in the TARDIS on Iceworld, a trading post on the dark side of the frozen planet Svartos. Iceworld is ruled by Kane, a megalomaniac who is only able to exist in sub-zero temperatures, and who can kill with his icy touch. The Doctor and Mel meet Sabalom Glitz, and the Time Lord is unable to resist becoming involved in a treasure hunt to find a mysterious hoard of wealth that lies in the depths of the planet, and reputed to be guarded by a mythical dragon. Mel meets Ace, a waitress working in a coffee shop, who was transported to Iceworld from her home in Perivale, on Earth, via a strange time storm. They set off in search of the Doctor and Glitz, only to encounter the dragon, which is revealed to be a biomechanical creature whose head contains a large energy crystal. Kane has sent Glitz on his quest, and has been tracking him via a device hidden in the seal of the map; the dictator wants the crystal - the Dragonfire - as it is the key that will release him from his prison on Iceworld. With success in his grasp, he orders his men to kill the dragon, and gain the crystal; he then uses his troops to herd everyone on Iceworld into Glitz's ship, The Nosferatu, in order to clear his city. Glitz looks on in horror as his ship explodes, killing everyone aboard. Meanwhile, Kane captures Ace, and uses her to force the Doctor to relinquish the crystal in exchange for her life. He then uses the crystal to power Iceworld, which is actually a gigantic spacecraft. He launches it, planning to return to his home world of Proamon, from which he was exiled three thousand years ago. The Doctor tells him that his planet's sun went nova over two thousand years ago, and a distraught Kane commits suicide by exposing his body to direct sunlight, melting away into nothing. After Glitz decides to take over Iceworld, and Mel elects to stay behind to keep an eye on him, Ace joins the Doctor in the TARDIS.
