Clangers

We come to the Clangers' planet and see Tiny Clanger fishing in the sky. She catches a string bag full of gold coins. She takes it down and quietly creeps into the door and down the slope. She thinks nobody has seen her but Grannie Clanger who lives under the ramp greets her. Tiny Clanger jumps and drops the bag and herself on Grannie. Grannie squeaks but Tiny Clanger asks her to shut up and gives her a small coin to buy her silence. Tiny Clanger creeps on as Grannie examines the coin, decides she doesn't want it after all, shouts 'Thankyou I don't want it' and throws it after Tiny Clanger. Tiny Clanger trips again and this time the bag breaks and the coins roll into the square. Other Clangers come along and pick up the coins, make off with them, admire them. Tiny Clanger says they belong to her. All of them, all hers. The Clangers bring back the coins and pile them up in front of her. One by one Tiny Clanger carries the coins up to her little cave and piles them up in a neat pile. She counts them and sits beside them. Small Clanger and the Baby Dragon call her to come and play ball but she refuses because she has to look after her money. Mrs. Clanger invites her to come and fetch soup from the well, Tiny Clanger regrets that she is otherwise engaged. Mrs. Clanger goes for soup. The Clangers come out, lay the table and sit down to wait for their soup. They call to Tiny Clanger to come and sit in her empty place. She declines. Mrs. Clanger returns with the big soup-jug on the trolley. She calls to Tiny Clanger to come down to tea. Tiny Clanger explains that she has to stay up there to guard the money. Mrs. Clanger orders her down. They have an angry exchange and accidentally the pile of money spills over and slides down on to the trolley, spilling it and the soup . Mrs. Clanger is furious. Tiny Clanger comes down and wipes up soup. The other Clangers demand their soup. Mrs. Clanger tells them to ask Tiny Clanger. Tiny Clanger takes them one of the coins to buy their indulgence but they loudly complain that they can't eat gold. Tiny Clanger is distraught. Small Clanger noses at the coin and discovers that the gold paper is loose. It is a chocolate penny. The Clangers unwrap it and eat it. They like chocolate. Tiny Clanger gives them several more coins and then loads the rest on to the trolley. She takes chocolate pennies to all her friends and collects more soup from the dragon. She brings back the soup which the Clangers receive with pleasure. She has no coins left but the Clangers have saved one for her. They give it to her. She takes it up to her cave and puts it where the others were. She sits beside it. Small Clanger and the Baby Dragon call her to come and play ball. She refuses at first but when she sees them playing about she decides to go and play with them. She starts to climb down and then runs back, unwraps the chocolate and eats it. Then she goes to play.
