Buffy

Buffy is training with Giles, taking her frustrations concerning Spike out on a punching bag, which is actually Xander wearing an enormous, padded-up suit. Buffy wonders how she can attract normal men, and Xander tells her just to be herself. Elsewhere, an attractive and particularly perky girl gets out of a car, telling the driver she is in Sunnydale to look for true love. At the Summers house, Buffy and Dawn are preparing their mother for her date that evening, about which she is extremely nervous. Anya and Tara are walking down a street discussing computers when the perky girl stops them and asks if they have seen Warren; when they tell her they do not know a Warren, the girl cheerfully thanks them and proceeds to ask the same question to the next person she sees. Later that evening, the gang attend a Spring Break party on campus. Seeing Ben, Buffy asks him to dance and he readily agrees, leaving her for a minute to get rid of his drink. Xander and Anya see the girl again, still looking for Warren, and asking all of the partygoers if they know him. Spotting her, a young man anxiously tells his girlfriend that they have to leave the party. As the girl asks Xander about Warren, she explains that he is her boyfriend and that he has lost her. Spike approaches Buffy, only to be rejected by her once more. Ben gives Buffy his phone number, hoping they can go for coffee sometime. Spike introduces himself to the girl, who says she called April; when Spike makes improper suggestions to her April suddenly grabs him by the collar, lifts him off the ground and throws him through a window. Buffy tries to reason with April, but the girl grabs her, throwing her backwards and injuring her shoulder. April then leaves to continue her search for Warren. After the party, Buffy and her friends discuss April, agreeing that she is a robot; they decide to look for Warren the following morning. Buffy comes home to rescue Giles, who has been babysitting Dawn; her mother returns from her date, which she declares a success, even managing to gross Buffy out with a joke about leaving her bra in her date’s car. The next day, at the ‘Magic Box’, Willow thinks she has tracked Warren down. Buffy calls Ben and arranges a date for the following evening. Warren is at home frantically packing, and instructs his girlfriend Katrina to do the same. When Buffy then arrives Warren loses his temper with Katrina, who promptly storms out, although Warren is more concerned that April has hurt anyone. Spike charges into the ‘Magic Box’, evading the sunlight by hiding under a blanket. Giles tells him he is not welcome; that they are not his way to Buffy, and he should get over his infatuation with her. Warren reveals that he made April to love him; she is more that a robot, she is a proper girlfriend. He admits he is in love with Katrina and left April in his dorm room while he came home to Sunnydale, and is surprised because April’s batteries should have run out by now. April bumps into Katrina in a nearby park, but when she asks her about Warren, Katrina states that Warren is her boyfriend; April grabs her by the throat and starts to throttle her, telling Katrina to stop lying. Buffy and Warren arrive at the park in time to save Katrina; Warren tells April that their ‘relationship’ is over and he cannot love her, saying that he loves Buffy, causing the robot to attack the Slayer. Katrina comes to, and, seeing some exposed wires on April, realises that she is a robot; disgusted with what Warren has built, she tells him to leave her alone. April holds Buffy by the throat and is about to choke her when her batteries start running down. The two of them sit on some swings and discuss Warren; April believes she was a good girlfriend, asking what else she exists for if not to make Warren happy. As her batteries die completely, April still remains optimistic that Warren will come back for her. Later, Xander talks to Buffy while repairing the window Spike went through; as they talk about April and Warren, Buffy realises that she has been obsessing about getting a new boyfriend, when what she really needs is some time with herself. She calls Ben to cancel her date, but the message she leaves on his answering-machine is later heard by Glory, who is hurt that the Slayer turned “them” down. Warren is attempting to explain things to Katrina when Spike turns up; he gives Warren the box of things he stole from Buffy and informs the boy that he is placing an order for a robot. Returning home, Buffy is pleased that her mother’s date sent her flowers. She calls out her mother and then trns to find her lying on the sofa - but the woman is unmoving, just staring at the ceiling. Buffy calls her mother several times, but gets no response…
