'I Only Have Eyes For You' Story Code '5V19' by Marti Noxon

Buffy is still hurt by Angel’s betrayal, and turns down the advances of Ben, who wants her to take him to the school’s upcoming ‘Sadie Hawkins Dance’. On the way to see Giles, Buffy comes across a boy holding a gun on his girlfriend; Buffy disarms him before he can shoot, but the gun vanishes, and the couple have no memory of what they were doing. Principal Snyder learns of Buffy’s attack on the boy, and, while in his office, a Sunnydale High yearbook from 1955 mysteriously pulls itself out of a bookshelf and falls to the floor. Later in class, Buffy falls asleep and experiences a vision of the same classroom back in the 1950's and sees a student, James, profess his love for his teacher. When Buffy subsequently tells Xander of her vision, a hand suddenly thrusts out of his locker and tries to pull him inside; Buffy fights it off and slams the locker shut, but when she and Xander re-open it, the hand has disappeared. They tell Giles, who surmises that this is the work of a poltergeist; it seems that someone died with unresolved issues, and the only way to make their spirit go away is to resolve those issues. That evening, one of the teachers, Ms. Frank, leaves for the night, saying good night to George, the janitor; but as she walks away, a gun appears in George’s hand, and the same scene is replayed from the night before. Giles hears voices, but is too late to stop Ms Frank from being shot; once again the gun disappears, and George has no recollection of what he has done. Willow carries out some research and discovers that on the night of the ‘Sadie Hawkins Dance’ in 1955, James shot his teacher, Grace Newman, when she ended their affair, and then hanged himself in the music room. When the inexplicable appearance of a mass of snakes inside the cafeteria causes the school to be evacuated, Principal Snyder tells the police chief that he does not know how much longer he can cover up the existence of the Hellmouth. That evening, Buffy and her friends try to exorcise the ghosts, but are unsuccessful, and instead are driven out of the school by a swarm of vicious wasps. However, Buffy returns alone when she thinks she hears Angel calling her; the ghosts possess her and Angel and re-enact the same scene, but this time, when Buffy shoots him, the undead vampire cannot be killed by the gunshot. Through him Grace forgives James and their spirits are finally laid to rest. Still possessed, Buffy and Angel kiss; they are then released, and a disgusted Angelus flees back to Drusilla and Spike. Then, when Angelus and Drusilla leave the lair to feed, the seemingly-crippled Spike stands up and leaves the confines of his wheelchair...
