Buck reaches his five-hundred-and-thirty-fourth birthday, but instead of celebrating, he becomes depressed over the people and friends that he misses from his own time. Hoping to cheer Buck up, Wilma and Doctor Huer decide to throw him a surprise birthday party; to prevent him from learning of their preparations, Wilma arranges for Buck to travel to New Detroit accompanying Raylyn Derren, a courier who holds Huer’s business schedule imprinted her subconscious. However, unknown to them, an assassin named Colonel Traeger is planning revenge on Doctor Huer, the man he holds responsible for his fifteen year’s of imprisonment on the planet Ovion. Together with his former psychiatrist, Delora Bayliss, Traeger plans to use his molecular reorganisation powers to obtain Huer’s schedule from Raylyn’s mind, so that he can then set a deadly trap for the doctor…
