When a mysterious sphere penetrates Earth’s defences and lands in the desert, Buck and Wilma set off to investigate. The globe releases a smaller sphere, which Doctor Huer discovers contains a data chip with details of a complex flight path through a deadly space-warp vortex and into another universe. Buck immediately volunteers to make the journey as Earth’s ambassador, and, together with Twiki, he makes the dangerous voyage into the unknown. Emerging from the vortex, Buck finds himself in a strange, alternate universe; he soon arrives at the beautiful planet Pendar, whose peaceful inhabitants are being threatened by the War Witch - a cruel tyrant called Zarina - and her Zaad troops. Meanwhile, Princess Ardala breaks the truce with Earth by instructing her minions to steal the flight plans so that she can follow Buck. When Doctor Huer and Wilma seek an audience with Ardala on her ship, the Draconia, they are immediately captured by the princess, just as the vessel enters the vortex. When the Pendaran Council ask both Buck and Ardala for help in defeating Zarina, a temporary truce between Draconia and the Earth Federation is soon forged; Buck then begins preparations to lead a combined fleet of Earth Starfighters and Draconian Marauders in an attack on the War Witch’s huge Zaad battlecruiser…
